Pre- fair

It begins -- our week of sheer exhaustion and enjoyment.

The Fair. There are a lot of reasons why we do this. It keeps the kids busy all summer. Saturday, they turned in their projects with sighs of relief. Leather crafting done, shooting sports done, accounting books and goal setting evaluations done. They met with a judge that morning, shook hands, talked about their projects and experiences in interview, and now we wait for the judging decisions. A ton of life skills in there.

The rest of the week is consumed with the chicken project, starting this week with chicken bath time in prep for check in. There's a lot of responsibility in owning a pet and the kids do a good job -- especially with 22 laying hens.

Ash loved the bath Christian gave her.

Oreo didn't find it amusing.

Janie was concerned that we robbed Mellow of his manliness.

But not for long, as he was soon up and chasing the girls around the yard with his fresh locks.

And so, our week of madness starts. We're off to the races. Late nights and early mornings tending birds and working hard, running amuck with friends, and enjoying the the last taste of freedom before our summer ends. And what better place to soak in the pleasures of childhood than at the fair.

Let's hope this mom can survive.
